Indexes that track private companies, what their records actually cover, and which constituents we can source.
An index that defines a basket of private companies. Its provider decides which companies go in, how they are priced, and how often the basket changes. The provider is not the firm selling any product that tracks the index, and the two can disagree about what a company is worth.
Two things make these indexes easy to misread: the published record usually starts years before the index itself did, and private constituents are priced from trades that happen rarely. Each page says which part of a record is live, and which constituents PrePost has a sourced figure for.
